  • Why buy a car from Australia?

There are a number of reasons why Australia is an excellent source country for vehicles. Firstly, most of Australia has a temperate climate, so vehicles tend to age exceptionally well, without being susceptible to rust caused by salted roads in snow areas or long periods of humidity in the tropics. In addition, the general standard of Australian body repairs and restorations is quite high; while it obviously pays to get vehicles checked ‘in the metal’ before committing to purchasing, a locally-restored vehicle is generally a good buy. Lastly, Australian consumer law offers a range of consumer protections in place to prevent fraudulent activities by vehicle sellers (but as always, it helps to have Aussies assisting you should something unforeseen happen).

  • I’ve found a car in New Zealand, can you help?

Yes. We have agents in Auckland and Wellington to assist with inspections if required, and we can export from New Zealand to your country just as easily as if doing the same from Australia.

  • Where are your agents based in Australia?

We have inspection agents who assist us through a sub-contract arrangement. They are based in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Hobart, Sydney, Brisbane and Cairns. For other locations, please contact us and we will see what we can arrange for you.

  • What is the difference between a buyer’s agent and a dealer?

As as a buyer’s agent, we provide the service of assisting you with the purchase of the vehicle and arranging exportation to your country. We do not purchase the vehicle from the seller on your behalf; in a legal sense, you are the buyer. All purchase documentation provided will reflect this. While we will occasionally list stock from local dealers, we are not a dealership ourselves. The fee you pay to us is the same, whether you’re spending $500 or $500,000 on the car itself; as such, there’s no advantage for us in the sale price being higher. We approach every sale as though we’re buying the car for ourselves: we will check the car thoroughly for you (if requested), negotiate the price and make sure the purchase and export processes are completely correctly.

  • How can I make sure the vehicle I’m buying isn’t stolen or owing money?

Every vehicle we assist with will come with a complimentary PPSR Check as part of our service. This ensures that the vehicle is not stolen, wrecked-and-repaired, or has finance outstanding.

  • Will ACE give me a refund if I don’t find a vehicle?

Yes. We offer a partial refund on our fee, prior to any vehicle being purchased, of AUD770 minus AUD110 for every month we are searching for vehicles on your behalf. Once a vehicle has been purchased, our fee is non-refundable.

  • How is payment arranged?

Once a final price has been agreed between you and the seller, we will pay a deposit on your behalf to ensure the vehicle is secured for you. From there, we will provide you with an invoice for the purchase cost of the vehicle, shipping to your country and any other additional costs as agreed. It is standard banking practice in Australia to use online bank transfers for large sums, so we normally help you arrange an international bank transfer through a trusted foreign exchange company for two important reasons: 1) we can ensure that the money reaches the right spot (reversing an international transfer is exceptionally difficult if your money ends up in the wrong account and 2) you will get a much better rate through them than your bank will ever give you, saving you money. Of course, you can arrange payment yourself if you prefer, but 20 years of arranging transfers to other countries has taught us the safest and fastest methods to use.

  • How long does it take for my vehicle to reach me?

Unless you’re located somewhere very remote, shipping to most ports worldwide takes 6-8 weeks. Once your vehicle is loaded onto a vessel, we will give you an ETA so you can prepare for its arrival.

  • I want to buy something other than a car from Australia. Can ACE help me?

Yes. As a general rule, if it has wheels, we can ship it. We have shipped cars, trucks, trailers, caravans, boats (on trailers), construction equipment and farm machinery in the past. If you have an Australian car and you’re based overseas, we may be able to help you locate parts (or at least point you in the direction of someone who can). Contact us for more information.

  • Do I get a discount on the service fee if I purchase more than one vehicle?

Yes. Your second and subsequent vehicles will receive an AUD220 discount on your service fee. This does not require you to purchase all the vehicles at the one time; you can leave it ten years between purchases, for example, and still receive the discount. Please note that it is rare that shipping lines give discounts on shipping costs for multiple vehicles, but we will always ask for you!

  • I’m already based in Australia and moving overseas. Can ACE still help?

Yes. Whether you’re an Aussie moving overseas, or an ex-pat moving back overseas again, we can help you take your vehicles with you. We offer a discounted service fee of AUD440 (including GST) for this service, because we are not having to arrange the purchase of a vehicle for you. Please note that our service fee does not include an allowance for transport of the vehicle to the wharf (mainly because it’s far easier and cheaper for you to drive the car there yourself if you’re able to do so).
